Supported MDI/J2534 interface-readiness summary

• GM MDI 2 (EL-52100-AM) — Verified supported. GM's Global Diagnostic Interface; performs Pass-Thru programming on GM vehicles built since 1996.
• Original GM MDI (1st gen) — Verify first. Listed in GM's SPS tool selection; confirm your unit and vehicle before relying on it.
• Other SAE J2534 pass-thru device — Verify first. GM's SPS lets you select "other J2534 device," but GM does not guarantee any specific third-party unit. Confirm your exact device before purchase — we do not imply universal compatibility.

Programming workflow and limits

• GM is moving SPS events to require a hard-wired (USB or Ethernet) MDI 2 connection; plan for a wired link. (GM TechLink, June 2025.)
